"Shonda always wanted to be a journalist and never found the door to private companies, so, Being the Ponder she is, she built her own door, had a set of keys made so door could open both directions, and handed the keys to the public and said come in and feel welcome and warm, for God visits often. The law protects here, and I am here to hear your demands. PROUD OF MY LITTLE GIRL

Napolitano’s Statement on House Passage of the Heroes Act

Source: U.S. Representative Grace Napolitano (D-CA, 32nd)

May 15, 2020

“As of today, at least 85,000 Americans are reported to have died due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with at least 1.4 million positive cases reported in the U.S. This pandemic has wreaked havoc on our public health, our way of life, and our economy. It has been extremely stressful for the constituents I’ve spoken with, from the small business owners struggling to obtain a loan, to the frontline workers demanding protective equipment and safety on the job. The Heroes Act provides desperately needed support for struggling families and our brave workers, including life-saving mental health services and access to clean and safe water, which I am proud to have helped secure in this legislation.”

Senator Murray Statement on Reauthorization of FISA

Source: Senator Patty Murray (D-WA)

May 15, 2020

“This is a serious issue with implications not just for our intelligence community, but for the rights and privacy of millions of people in my home state of Washington and across the country. So while I appreciate that my colleagues have taken meaningful steps to improve the law by restricting and bolstering oversight of the sweeping surveillance powers authorized under FISA, these reforms still don’t go far enough to protect Americans’ civil liberties.”

House Passes COVID-19 Legislation That Includes Murphy’s Bipartisan Bill to Reduce Layoffs

Source: Senator Christopher Murphy (D-CT)

May 15, 2020

“I’m proud my initiative to help millions of workers and businesses was included in the HEROES Act. This was the result of painstaking negotiations with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle who agree Congress needs to advance big, bold, and bipartisan proposals to support workers, businesses, and our economy,” said Murphy. “Now that the House has approved my bill, I will work with the Senate and the Trump Administration to enact this measure, because only legislation that becomes law helps the American people.”

Illegal Aliens will get Benefits in New Relief Package

Source: U.S. Representative Markwayne Mullin (R-OK, 2nd)

May 15, 2020

“This is nothing but a socialist wish list full of provisions that have nothing to do with fighting the COVID-19 pandemic,” Mullin said. “Instead of trying to help Americans get back on their feet, Speaker Pelosi’s bill forces us to become dependent on the federal government. That’s not what built our country and that’s not what will get us out of this crisis. We should be focused on bringing relief to the American families who need it instead of passing partisan legislation that has zero chance at becoming law.”

Murkowski Welcomes Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program

Source: Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK)

May 15, 2020

“Over the past several years, I have worked with my Senate colleagues to develop a pathway for these important clean energy systems and have pushed my Nuclear Energy Leadership Act to reposition us as the undisputed world leader in advanced nuclear technology,” Murkowski said. “NELA focuses DOE on advanced reactor demonstrations, and we worked to make this specific program possible through the Appropriations process. These nuclear reactors will provide a sensible path toward cleaner energy and a lower-carbon future.”

Mucarsel-Powell Supports Passage Of Second COVID-19 Stimulus Package, The Heroes Act, To Bring Much-Needed Aid To South Florida

Source: U.S. Representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D-FL, 26th)

May 15, 2020

“The Heroes Act is the kind of response COVID-19 demands. With 1,917 dead, over 44,000 confirmed cases, and nearly 1.5 million initial unemployment claims in Florida in the past 9 weeks alone, it is time for Congress to act urgently – no more putting the needs of Americans on pause,” said Mucarsel-Powell. “I’m proud that this package includes my bill to extend COVID-19 treatment to 2.2 millions Floridians with Medicare Advantage, including 80,000 in my district. This bill invests in testing and contact tracing, includes funding for Florida’s cities and counties to protect our front line heroes, and provides direct emergency aid to families and businesses. The Heroes Act isn’t perfect, but it was written with the best interests of the American people at heart and builds on the bipartisan bills already passed by Congress to combat the coronavirus. Now, the Senate must put partisan politics aside and pass this legislation that helps ALL of our constituents during this unprecedented crisis.”

May 12, 2020

“We need a national mental health hotline that we all can remember, so that none of us are left alone when we need help in a crisis—just like we all know we can dial 911 for other emergencies. Every day that goes by without one, more lives are needlessly lost because people who need help simply can’t connect with it quickly enough,” Moulton said. “Congress also needs to support nonprofits while they have the burden of supporting all of us.”

Motorcycle Helmets Now Excluded from Tariffs Until September 1, 2020

Source: Motorcycle Industry Council

May 15, 2020

“Tariffs are additional taxes paid by American consumers and businesses, not by China,” said Erik Pritchard, president and CEO of the Motorcycle Industry Council. “May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness month, so we are pleased that the USTR has decided to exclude additional taxes on motorcycle helmets. Safety equipment must remain affordable and readily available to all riders.”

May 12, 2020

“One of the most effective ways to stop the spread of COVID-19 is to simply stay home—but unfortunately, too many Americans are not safe in their own homes,” said Congressman Joe Morelle. “The uptick in domestic violence incidents since COVID-19 struck our nation is a sobering reminder that we must do more to address this scourge on our society and empower survivors. I’m proud to co-sponsor this important legislation to help law enforcement navigate these unprecedented circumstances to better protect innocent families.”

Avon, Kitten, Easter Eggs, Fish Fry and Lizards

May 12, 2020

I've had an eventful few days!

I've gone out to sell my Avon more. I've actually sold over $300 in the last week.

The diner where I work is seeing a lot more business (and we are SO glad to see that!) We had gotten so used to having no business, though, that it is taking some re-adjustment to get our minds and bodies working to receive it all "normally" again. I am NOT complaining!

Congresswoman Miller's Op-Ed: The long march: Reestablishing US trade supremacy

Source: U.S. Representative Carol Miller (R-VW, 3rd)

May 12, 2020

The Coronavirus pandemic sent shockwaves throughout our country, driving us into crises on both the health care and economic fronts. Our country has stepped up with unprecedented response efforts. We’ve flattened the curve, slowed the spread, and our governors now carry the heavy burden of deciding when to open their states. As we turn our country back on, we face a difficult path to return to normalcy. In order to respond to this challenge and ensure continued global economic competitiveness, there are critical steps we must take both at home and in our relationships with the rest of the world.

May 12, 2020

In the letter to USDA, the senators wrote, “The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in an unprecedented rise in unemployment and a subsequent increase in demand for food assistance. At the same time, social distancing guidelines and stay at home orders have made it challenging—and unsafe—for many individuals to travel to purchase food. This is especially true for seniors and immunocompromised individuals who are at higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19, as well as individuals with disabilities and families who lack reliable transportation. We believe that no individual or family should be disadvantaged simply because they rely on SNAP benefits to access the food they need.”

Meng Urges House and Senate Leaders to Ensure Students Have Internet Access for Remote Learning During COVID-19 Crisis

Source: Grace Meng (D-NY, 6th)

May 11, 2020

The Emergency Educational Connections Act would provide $2 billion to the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) E-Rate program to ensure all students have internet access during COVID-19. Under the bill, schools and libraries, including Tribal schools and libraries, who receive E-Rate funds would be able to purchase Wi-Fi hotspots, modems, routers, and internet-connected devices to help students without broadband participate in remote learning during the pandemic.

May 12, 2020

“Voting rights are the backbone of our democracy. Despite being in the middle of a pandemic of historic proportions, our voting rights must be protected and expanded to ensure everyone can make their voice heard in a safe way,” said Sen. Menendez. “The VoteSafe Act expands voting options for Americans in hard hit states such as New Jersey, by providing no-excuse vote by mail and expanded early voting, as well as improving access to voter registration.”

McSally Secures Expanded Breast Cancer Screening Coverage for U.S. Service Members, Veterans

Source: Senator Martha McSally (R-AZ)

May 12, 2020

Last year, McSally introduced a bill that would grant female TRICARE users access to the most effective breast imaging option: Digital Breast Tomosynthesis, also known as DBT or 3D mammography. TRICARE was the only national payer not covering preventative DBT screenings at the time. Following McSally’s bill introduction and a bipartisan letter, the Department of Defense (DoD) updated its coverage policy officially on January 1, 2020.

McKinley Calls On Support for Postal Workers

Source: U.S. Representative David McKinley (R-WV, 1st)

May 7, 2020

Over the past decade, declining mail volume has caused the USPS to lose money and put it in a precarious financial situation. With the pandemic, mail volume has declined even further. Recently, the Postmaster General announced that with current projections the USPS will be insolvent before the end of September.
